The TCG Grant has enabled LocalKind’s Support Workers to be a consistent, stabilising presence in the lives of those facing immense challenges—stories like Kian's are made possible through their deep commitment, skill, and patience.
Kian’s journey is a powerful example of the transformational role our Support Workers play. Removed from his mother due to her substance dependence, Kian grew up in the foster care system, feeling abandoned and disconnected. As a teenager, these unresolved traumas surfaced in the form of criminal behaviour and substance misuse. In his twenties, everything unravelled—Kian lost his job, his home, and began rough-sleeping.
Throughout this crisis period, the trust built between Kian and our Support Workers became the turning point. By showing up consistently, listening without judgment, and creating a safe space at our community drop-in, our team gave Kian the courage to imagine a different future. They recognised his deep sense of loss over his job—not just as employment, but as a part of his identity—and used that insight to motivate him towards change.
Through careful and compassionate conversations, our Support Workers encouraged Kian to consider detox and rehabilitation—something he had never felt ready for before. Because of the relationship and trust built over time, he listened. This month, he entered a nine-month residential program with a renewed sense of purpose and hope.
This outcome is not accidental—it is the result of sustained, professional, trauma-informed support work. The TCG Grant has enabled our team to continue being present in the lives of people like Kian, helping them move from crisis to stability and from survival to transformation.
We are immensely grateful for your investment in this work and the people we walk alongside every day.
