Making a Difference: $50,000 Donation Empowers Youngcare Recipients

We're thrilled to share the impact of a generous $50,000 donation made to Youngcare in the 2023 financial year. This incredible contribution helped several people with disabilities maintain their independence and improve their quality of life.

Youngcare's At Home Care Grants and Home Support Grants provided crucial funding for essential equipment, home modifications, and support services. These grants empower individuals to remain living in their familiar environments, surrounded by loved ones, instead of facing the risk of entering inappropriate housing.

Meet the some of the recipients:

Naomi: This 46-year-old woman relies heavily on the support of her new assistance dog, Bobby, to manage her complex health conditions, including severe pain, tremors, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Previously, her dog Simbah provided invaluable companionship and assistance, and Bobby is being trained to fill the same crucial role, helping Naomi maintain her independence and improving her overall well-being. Having Bobby by her side will bring much-needed comfort and support, allowing Naomi to stay living independently in her own home.

Edie: At 32, Edie's fiercely independent spirit and social life were severely restricted due to the lack of accessible transportation options. Confined to her home due to unreliable public transport and a lack of accessible taxis, Edie felt increasingly isolated and unable to participate in the activities she enjoyed. The donation helped Edie purchase an accessible vehicle, granting her the freedom and control to access work, social events, and everyday activities, boosting her mental health and social integration. Edie now eagerly anticipates the opportunities this new vehicle brings, allowing her to reconnect with friends, pursue her interests, and experience the world outside her home.

Pat: A spinal cord injury in 2001 impacted Pat's ability to perform daily tasks independently, including transferring safely and comfortably in and out of bed. This limited his independence and threatened the normalcy of his relationship with his partner, Judy. The donation funded an electric adjustable bed, allowing Pat to continue transferring independently and maintain his independence in his home. This crucial piece of equipment also preserves the normalcy and intimacy of his relationship with Judy, allowing them to continue sleeping together as they did before, fostering a sense of security and companionship.

These stories showcase the life-changing impact of donations. What’s more incredible is that since 2020, Youngcare has distributed over $438,000.00 in financial support to NSW residents through At Home Care and Home Support Programs
